Wicca Altar

In Wicca, an altar usually stands in the home of individual practitioners, and also at the place of coven work. Here is one example is a standard altar layout:

This is only one example of the many layouts there are, and individuals are encouraged to adorn their altars however is best suitable for them.

  • God and Goddess may be represented as two candles (I prefer silver for Goddess, and Gold for God) or two deity statues of personal choice upon the altar.
  • Offerings may be anything from Cake and Ail (traditionally), wine, bread, or portions of meals depending upon preference.
  • In this layout, Salt, water, incense, and candle represent the four elements. (Earth, Water, Air, Fire)
  • It is standard that all items and tools placed upon the altar are cleaned and consecrated.
  • Book of Shadows may be placed on the altar or sat down below or in a drawer for easy access.
  • Besom should be sat aside to keep away from flame.
  • Other spiritual and seasonal items (Stones, runes, sabbat items, herbs, flowers, spell work) may also be placed upon the altar, but be mindful of clutter and keep flammable items away from smoke or flames.
